- 「It's Like That」
這是新專輯的首支單曲，在billboard首周取得了no.53的成績。可以說這是自'loverboy'以來MC成績最好的一支單曲。與此同時這支單曲還在這個星期登上了most added song to Pop & Urban radio stations的no.1和most added song at Rhythm radio across the U.S.的no.2。對於這個成績確實讓我吃驚不少。因為電台對MC的單曲從來都是不感興趣，尤其自'rainbow'以後她的單曲如果不依靠銷量的話根本就無法進入排行榜。那麼'It's like that'究竟和以往的MC有何不同呢？說的簡單一點，這支單曲更流行了，它符合了目前美國正在流行的東西。Hip-Hop已經佔領美國流行樂壇兩年多了，流行什麼就創作什麼樣的歌曲，迎合市場的口味這是無可厚非的。'It's like that'做到了。但是這又好像不構成MC鹹魚翻身的理由，要知道MC從'Butterfly'開始就已經開始轉型為R&B/Hip-Hop藝人了，MC和她的黑人哥們兒姐們兒創造了眾多將R&B和Hip-Hop完美融合的歌曲，並且統治了Urban R&B領域很長時間。可惜的是物極必反，為什麼'Glitter'和'Charmbracelet'沒有受到歡迎，究其原因一個是歌曲本身毫無新意，還有就是MC固執的氣聲唱腔。雖然MC深懂流行之道，她懂得如何讓一首單曲變得更加迎合市場，但是說實話那兩張專輯當中確實很少有哪支單曲有獨當一面的本領。雖然氣聲更加的難唱但顯然這是個吃力不討好的唱法。有了優秀的編曲有了優秀的製作人但是MC的R&B+Hip-Hop總給人感覺不是那麼的純正，我想也許就是因為她的嗓音吧。對於R&B/Hip-Hop來說，她的聲音當中沒有黑人那種free style的感覺，更多的只是一種炫技式的表演，雖然經過優良的製作她把每一次假聲安排的都恰到好處。而氣聲顯然和黑人的演唱風格與R&B的精髓背道而馳，當然並不是說要MC有黑人的嗓音或者其他什麼，而是她的Urban R&B並沒有什麼能觸動人心的東西,反而讓人覺得有些不倫不類。
'It's like that'則不同。至少它讓我產生了「耳」前一亮的感覺。經過Jermaine Dupri這位大師的製作，這首單曲散發出了無盡的魅力。有別於JD以前為MC製作過的單曲比如'The one'，'Miss you'等等，這支單曲回復了JD本來的風格，這是件很好的事情，因為這就意味著這支單曲更加討好電台和市場，有可能在排行榜上大展拳腳。聆聽這首歌，Hip-Hop和R&B依然完美的融合在一起，Hip-Hop式的編曲首先就帶給大家和以往不一樣的衝擊力。一段簡單上口的旋律不斷的在repeat使這首歌聽起來很舒服，確實能調動聽者的耳朵。同時在編曲中運用合成器的同時又加入了打擊樂的成分作為節奏的切分點，使歌曲充滿動感，值得一讚。同時歌曲本身的結構也以簡單為主，加上簡單的編曲，整體給人的感覺與Snoop Dogg前一陣子的冠軍曲'Drop It Like It's Hot'有異曲同工之妙。得益於Snoop Dogg前一陣子的轟動效應，現在美國佬兒非常鍾愛這種簡簡單單的東西。但是這首歌最大的亮點還是在MC的演唱上。就像我前面說的，以往MC的演唱缺少了R&R/Hip-Hop風格中的那種神韻，但是這一回不一樣。MC果斷地摒棄了上兩張專輯中大量運用得氣聲唱法，而直接用自己真實原始的聲音去演唱。你會發現MC的中音區域和歌曲融合的非常好，以前那種格格不入的感覺蕩然無存。verse的中音有力飽滿，bridge用和聲的辦法製造音牆來提升聲音的厚度，chours配合著簡單的歌詞唱出了Hip-Hop style。這回聲音上的轉變確實讓人耳目一新，絕對是驚喜。在副歌ending的部分MC也展示了她高音區域的實力，但這是建立在與歌曲風格和整體感覺相一致的基礎上，所以高音的自由solo並不會像以往一樣讓我們覺得驚喜，而是覺得更加和諧，這也就是為什麼我們在這首歌曲中聽不到她的招牌假音的原因。概括地說這次MC沒有用矯揉造作的氣聲，也沒有炫技似的狂飆假音，而是用一種簡單的方法演唱一首簡單的歌曲。整體來說'It's like that'中MC的演唱非常不錯，可以看出她和Hip-Hop的聯繫更緊密了，不僅是在歌曲的編排上，在演唱上面也是。
'It's like that'是MC近年來不可多得的一首佳作，驚喜很大，但是也有些許遺憾。在這裡我們不得不提到美國三人女子組合Blaque的'I'm good'。雖然她們從來都沒有紅過，但是'I'm good'依然是一首R&B佳作。在'It's like that'的編曲部分所營造出的那種氣氛和'I'm good'比較相向，原因就是兩者都運用了打擊鼓點來貫穿始終，只不過'I'm good'的編曲要更複雜更多變一些。最大的遺憾還是在作曲上。當我第一次聽'It's like that'時就覺得似曾相識，不僅在歌曲的氣氛上在旋律上也是。後來我想起了Blaque。說實話這首歌和'I'm good'的風格確實很像，但是在編曲repeat的部分和在演唱的Verse部分和Chours部分確實有一段旋律和'I'm good'的副歌部分的旋律一模一樣，只不過速度上略有放慢。對於我來說這確實是個不小的遺憾。因為當我每一次聽到'It's like that'的時候我都會想起'I'm good'中不斷重複的那句'I'm good I'm good without you'。
'It's like that'的歌詞雖然延續了比較膚淺的調調，但我們能感受到MC這回滿滿的自信和野心。是的，她很明確地提出這張專輯是收復失地之作。如果說'Through the rain'還是一種自我鼓勵的話，那麼'It's like that'當中我們確實能感受到MC對這張專輯的期待與信心。MC的新專輯取名為《The Emancipation Of Mimi》，其中Mimi是MC的小名。很少有歌手會用自己的小名來定義整張專輯，MC也許這回是想讓大家看到真實的自我，不僅在音樂上，而且通過音樂也能達到與歌迷心靈的交流吧。
如果說97年的化繭成蝶讓MC找到了自己音樂上的方向，那麼這一回MC再一次的改變則終止了在Urban R&B風格上的迷失。我們有足夠的理由期待MC第二次的化繭成蝶。花蝴蝶第二次的蛻變，絕對不會讓我們失望。
