個人生活
埃及開羅出生於亞美尼亞的父母，於1958年在埃及移民到加拿大，最初在安大略省多倫多定居。他的母親在亞美尼亞詩人Raffi之後給他命名。他的父親Arto Cavoukian是著名的肖像攝影師，在多倫多的Bloor Street有一個工作室。他的哥哥Onnig Cavoukian被稱為“Cavouk”，也是著名的肖像攝影師。他的妹妹是安省前信息和私隱專員安·卡武尤。他的父母在十二小時內相互死亡，母親先死於腹部癌症。
