背景
雷勃·波茨（William Boltz）是父母威廉（William）和露絲·波爾茨（Ruth Boltz）的父母三個孩子中的一個。第四個孩子出生後不久就死亡了。 Ray與Carol Boltz結婚33年（1975-2008），他們有四個孩子。
當他寫下“謝謝你”的時候，Boltz幾乎是個未知數，他在1990年的GMA Dove大獎上獲得了年度最佳歌曲獎。他的歌曲“我誓言效忠羔羊”在1994年的第25屆GMA鴿子大獎上也獲得了“年度最佳勵志歌曲”鴿獎獎。2002年“Potter's Field”的歌曲發行以及2004年的最後一次巡迴演出之後，波爾茲從音樂界退休。他於2005年離開妻子，然後搬到佛羅里達州的勞德代爾堡，他們的離婚在2008年初完成。
