The chorus of “What If I Fly” came to Melody the summer of 2020 when she first moved to Taiwan. While people around her questioned her dreams, she found encouragement in this quote by Eric Hanson: “You ask, ‘What if I fall?’ Oh but my darling, what if you fly?” This is what inspired her to write the chorus. But it wasn’t until the New Years of 2021 that she finally finished the song, adding the verses and bridge. She recorded her first unofficial demo of the song in her bedroom the next day and released it on YouTube. Another year later, the official orchestral version of “What If I Fly” comes out just in time for 2022’s Chinese New Years. The first line goes, “Another year is gone,” making it the perfect song for New Years, a time for renewed hope and dreams.
黃友聞是在2020年的暑假，剛搬到台灣之後，寫了「What If I Fly」的副歌。當周圍的人質疑她夢想的時候，她從 Eric Hanson 的這句話中，得到了鼓勵：「你問，‘萬一我跌倒呢？’ 但是親愛的，萬一你就飛起了？」這也是她創作副歌的靈感。但是一直到2021年的新年，一月一號，她才終於寫完整首歌。隔天她就在自己的房間裡錄了demo，放在YouTube上。又過了一年，也是在2022新年的時候，「What If I Fly」的正式版（加上管弦樂) 終於發行了。歌詞的第一句 “Another year is gone (一年又過了)” 讓「What If I Fly」成為非常合適新年開始的歌！
《Melody Hwang》
Born in Texas and raised in California, Melody grew up in a music-loving home. Her father was a computer engineer and her mother a piano teacher—both Taiwanese immigrants who met and fell in love in Illinois during graduate school. Naturally Melody was taught piano at a young age, but she quit after a traumatic piano competition experience. Then at age twelve, she miraculously started playing piano again and writing songs on her own, without any classical training. She also began learning how to produce music and mix during this time.
Melody 在德州出生，後來搬到加州，在一個熱愛音樂的家庭中長大。 父親是工程師，母親是鋼琴老師 ，在她小的時候就學了鋼琴，但是經歷一次痛苦的鋼琴比賽之後，Melody 就決定放棄了。 然而到她十二歲時，雖然沒有任何古典訓練，但Melody很奇妙地又重新開始彈琴並創作歌曲。 同時，她也開始學習混音和音樂的製作。
At age eight, Melody started going to church with her parents and eventually joined the worship team, where she grew as a worship leader, pianist, singer—and the occasional drummer. During this time she continued writing songs and produced multiple albums for the church.

Melody has been called a “Healing singer 療癒歌手.” Her recognizable voice, ear-catching melodies, and meaningful lyrics have attracted many to her music. Author Brené Brown once said, “[This is] the magic of all art: the ability to both capture our pain and deliver us from it at the same time.” This is also Melody’s greatest hope and passion, to heal, inspire, and change lives through her music and art.
