出生於西印度群島千里達托貝哥的Heather Headley，身為牧師女兒，從小就在充滿音樂環繞的教堂中開始表演生涯，年僅四歲就彈得一手好琴，隨後接觸較為民族色彩的當地歌謠、雷鬼等樂種。

15歲移民美國印第安納州，高中畢業後，Heather進入西北大學研讀音樂、歌舞劇等相關科系。1997年登上百老匯舞台飾演獅子王Nala要角，1999年以「阿依達」音樂劇獲得東尼獎「最佳女演員」。驚為天人的嗓音讓Heather於2002年發行個人專輯《This Is Who I Am》，首支單曲〈He Is〉出版，立刻入圍靈魂列車「最佳節奏藍調/ 靈魂或饒舌新進藝人」獎，接著節奏藍調榜Top15+舞曲榜Top5的第二波碎心單曲〈I Wish I Wasn’t〉，獲得葛萊美「最佳新人」、「最佳節奏藍調女歌手」等兩項大獎入圍，2003年更贏得靈魂列車「年度最佳個人節奏藍調/ 靈魂專輯」以及「最佳個人節奏藍調/ 靈魂或饒舌新進藝人」兩大獎、「最佳節奏藍調/ 靈魂單曲〈He Is〉」提名，NAACP Image獎項「傑出新人」與「傑出女藝人」提名，入選Billboard音樂獎「年度節奏藍調/ 嘻哈新人」獎，優異的成績，讓人無法不將目光多停留在她身上！
