跟其他復古流行電子樂團一樣，來自洛杉磯的Shiny Toy Guns(以下簡稱STG)對於1980年代的流行電子新浪潮樂風十分迷戀，STG成員迷的是能在音樂中散播歡樂氣氛，營造性感快意的Thompson Twins、Peaches這一掛樂團，在STG以首張專輯【We Are Pilots】搶下全美熱門潛力榜冠軍後，有人說他們是一支搞時髦、玩迷幻、穿戴著哥德、新浪潮裝扮的樂團，有人稱他們是一支混搭著舞場超殺能量的電子樂團，其實，在STG搶眼的外表下，他們的音樂也不時泛著屬於知性青年的情緒顏色。

鍵盤手Jeremy Dawson與吉他手Gregori Chad Petree籌組過Cloud2Ground、Slyder等電子舞曲團，發表了幾張專輯作品後，轉往幕後擔綱製作，2004年，他們找了主唱Carah Faye Charnow、鼓手Mike Martin兩人一起組成STG，透過MySpace網站的設立，逐漸在加州音樂圈打開知名度，2005年初，以獨立製作與發行方式發表首張專輯【We Are Pilots】，並以巡迴演唱行程造勢，2006年6月，與環球音樂廠牌簽下唱片合約，沒多久，這支穿著時髦緊身褲、畫著深深眼線的樂團瞬間成了鎂光燈追逐的焦點，首先是Jeremy因為針對蘋果電腦執行長Steve Jobs呼籲廢除DRM(數位音樂版權管理)制度發表不同見解而引發爭論，而Carah Faye則被媒體臆測說她是Paris Hilton專輯裡真正的演唱者，Carah Faye連忙澄清那是因為她曾為Paris專輯裡收錄的歌曲擔綱試唱所造成的誤會。
